Background in Sound
Throughout her twenty-six years, Andrea has been driven by creativity. She has attended multiple schools within and surrounding the Twin Cities of Minnesota, but graduated from Blaine High School in Blaine, Minnesota. For four years, she attended the University of Minnesota Morris, earning a BA in Communications, Media, and Rhetoric (CMR) with a focus in sound and film, and in 2019, she earned an MA in Sound Arts and Industries program at Northwestern University.
Sound Today
Andrea is deeply devoted to her studies, learning production and technical skills as well as building a theoretical foundation on sound. She has had the privilege to be the production sound mixer and sound designer on various short films, a web-series, a documentary, a few feature length films, and an ad/promo for branded content. She travels all around the Midwest, or really anywhere, for the next film.
For the past seven years, Andrea has been a freelance live sound engineer mixing shows for open mics, bands, and performing artists. She is a monitor and FOH engineer at House of Blues-Chicago and an AV engineer at Untitled Supper Club. Currently, she is a freelancer touring with ASH productions for dance and with KOHAI for music artists. Whenever she gets the chance, she loves shadowing other engineers to learn from the wise!
In Other Sounds
When she finds the time, Andrea loves to play her viola. She is classically trained and is going on sixteen years of playing.
To better understand sound, she attempts to understand visuals. Non-professionally, Andrea dabbles in watercolor painting. With the paintings she produces, Andrea creates soundscapes that accompany them adding dimension, depth, and a touch of life. To view them: Instagram @awathanaphone
Every now and then, Andrea will record an audio diary documenting her life, uploading them to this portfolio and her Soundcloud @awathanaphone
